Though we didn't make it all the way up the Riverside walk (we hope to yet!), the walk is quite nice - especially at night when it is lit up by a variety of different lanterns and lights.Because we were here during the Lantern Festival, there were also a number of larger installments that lit up at night either directly along the walk, or just a jaunt out of the way. Though you could do this walk during the day, it is better to do so in the evening when it is dark enough to appreciate it's true beauty. Make sure you bundle up because it can get chilly in the evenings and don't forget your umbrella. The walk is easy and mostly paved, so it is suitable for just about anyone (in fact, it's one of the few places in Hsinchu that actually had "sidewalk" like areas).

The Riverside Park starts between the cobblestone streets that come off of Dongmen Circle. There, the city often has cultural affairs like Lantern Festival (which happens in February, usually) and other attractions. The walk continues under Dongmen Circle and leads to East Gate. From there it goes under again to the other side where it rejoins the river and continues on toward the government buildings. At night, see the park partially light up. Christmas has some special decorations, as does Chinese New Year. But even regular nights have something special.A romantic walk? Sure! Go feed the fish? Ok! Sit on a park bench and people watch? Sure thing.Take note that in the underpass toward the Dongmen circle is where many of the break dancers practice because there is a reflective plexiglass. Do not worry! These dancers are super friendly, talented, and outgoing.
