This was done with Smithsonian Travels. Getting into Tibet is often 'dicey' but with Smithsonian it was easy. We had to get a Visa to enter China and they stated we needed six (6) blank pages in our passports. We only had five so had to get new passports. Of course, their Visa only took up one page!! The only downside.Smithsonian had a China PhD expert from Washington, DC, along for the entire trip. She supplemented the local guides and gave voluntary lectures on food, climate, geography, history, war, etc. -- all most informative and valuable. The tour was a giant counter clockwise circle. Beijing, Great Wall, Xian (Terra Cotta Soldiers - worth the trip alone), Lasha Tibet, Panda Preserve, 3 day cruise on Yangtzee and finish in Shanghai. A long 20 days but stunning to see how so many people live in such proximity to one another. "small villages" had over 1 million people in each one. Highly recommend.
